Red Tail Squadron – A tribute to the Tuskegee Airmen
The CAF Red Tail Squadron is committed to telling the inspirational story of the Tuskegee Airmen, America’s first black military pilots and their support personnel. The mission of the CAF Red Tail Squadron is to educate people of all ages about the Tuskegee Airmen so their strength of character and ability to triumph over adversity may serve as a means to inspire others to rise above obstacles in their own lives and achieve their goals. The P-51C Mustang used for the project was restored initially in 2001, more than 45 years after it had been in service, complete with the group’s distinct red tail and aptly named the Tuskegee Airmen. It is a museum without walls, bringing the story of the Tuskegee Airmen coast to coast.
After watching the Red Tail Squadron flight demonstration, head over to the Action Zone and visit the RISAE ABOVE mobile exhibit.
RISE ABOVE: Red Tail, their three-fold outreach program, includes an airworthy P-51C Mustang and the RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit mobile theater. These two exciting and entertaining vehicles tour the country year round with stops at airshows, schools, museums and community events. In addition, the group curates and provides extensive educational resources for students, teachers, youth leaders and anyone looking to learn more and be inspired by these remarkable American trailblazers.
